The Global Citrus Industry

The citrus industry is globally important for economic activities that involve production on farms, processing of fruits at both industrial plants and packinghouses, and all the logistics of marketing, sales and distribution of various products around the world! Across this chain of production and commerce there are millions of consumers of citrus fruits and juices eager for high quality nutritional products. To supply the entire market requires thousands of farmers across five continents and a multitude of companies operating in activities such as agricultural chemicals and equipment, defensives, biotechnology, machinery, compliance, precision agriculture, navigation, transportation, storage, insurance, marketing, sales and distribution and others. According to the FAO, in 2013, the world produced 136 million tons of citrus fruits in 146 countries.
